Newborn Gallery

Newborns….they are so cute. I love our newborns and proud to be Bismarck’s best and most experienced newborn photographer.  I take my time photographing, posing and handling your newborn and have experience working with many newborns, including twins.  Images by Amy Jo recommend booking your session at least 1-3 months in advance of your due date to make sure everything is lined up ahead of time and you don’t have to worry. Once your little bundle of joy arrives, please contact Images by Amy Jo to let us know the great news.  Just stumbled across our site?  After your new arrival is born, we still want to photograph them.  Newborns are best photographed under 2 weeks of age; the ideal timing before 9 days. After ten days, our newborns lose their womb-like behavior.  You will want them curly, comfy and ready for sleep. I can’t wait to meet your newest family member.

Newborn Session fee $455- This is a 2 hour session. This is a specialized shoot with a highly trained professional photographer handling and photographing your newborn child. I also offer the Sweet Beginnings Program that includes sessions at Maternity, Newborn, 6 months, and 1 year old with the option of doing a 3 month shoot instead of maternity.

How to create an Awesome Newborn Session

I recommend booking your session as you enter the last trimester of your pregnancy.

As soon as your newborn comes, it’s non-stop late nights and hard work for you. Coordinating a newborn session seems like the last thing on your list of priorities. I recommend booking your session at least 1-3 months in advance of your due date and this will help alleviate any worry! Once your newborn arrives, please contact Images by Amy Jo to let us know the great news. I will work closely with you or a family member to find a day and time that works for everyone. Newborns are best photographed under 2 weeks of age; the ideal timing before 9 days.

Before the Shoot

With a newborn – everything is new! It takes time to get into the swing of things with your newborn, and predicting when naptime will happen is generally difficult. However, if you can manage to have baby fed and changed before the shoot, this will increase chances of sleep! If you have any outfits or props you’d like included in the photos, please lay them out ahead of time in place easily accessible.

During the shoot

The golden rule of newborn photography: babies are unpredictable! At just a few days old, a regular feeding, sleeping, and potty schedule is out of the question. I understand this and as a result require a minimum of 3 hours blocked out for posed sessions. Although we have our bag of tricks to make the process efficient and fun for everyone, it really all comes down to how baby’s feeling.

For posed sessions, we ask that parents have plenty of diapers, towels and clean-up items readily available while we pose and photograph your sleeping newborn.  I love to have help- however please keep the number of individuals involved in the process to a minimum. At an already chaotic time in a parent’s life, sometimes additional guests can add stress to the baby, and I aim for a relaxed bonding experience for all families I work with. Please ask how we work to get gorgeous family pictures with older children.

Check list for the…

Day before

  • Don’t schedule vaccinations the day before your session!
  • Tire baby out with stimulating activities so she will want to sleep the next day.

Day of

  • Keep baby awake as much as possible prior to the session.
  • Feed baby until he/she is completely full.
  • Ensure the diaper or any clothing isn’t strapped on too tightly to avoid red marks.
  • Dress baby in something easy to slip on and off without causing to much disturbance.

During the session

  • I will crank up the heat.  It should feel like a sauna(80 degrees).
  • I will turn fan and white noise to help newborn sleep.
  • Mom and dad should dress in clothes comfortable for the heated room.
  • The surrounding environment should be as quiet as possible.
  • Poop happens. Don’t worry if it does. I expect it will in most all sessions.

Don’t forget:

  • Extra milk/formula
  • Extra diapers
  • Wipes
  • Pacifier if takes it
  • Snack and drinks for mom
  • Any special blankets or props
